How to Attach Adjustable Headboard Brackets to an Adjustable Bed Base
Step #1 – Find your brackets
You will need brackets to attach the headboard to the base. As we mentioned above, sometimes these are included along with the adjustable bed from the manufacturer. If they are not included, then you’ll need to get some on your own. One way to do this is by contacting the manufacturer of the frame. They might be able to send you some, or simply make sure you know the exact ones you need to get.
Step #2 – Bolts or hooks?
Next, you’ll need to look at the headboard in order to determine what kind of attachment it needs to connect to the adjustable bed frame. There are two main options: bolt on or hook on. Generally speaking, the bolt-on design will have drilled holes, while the hook-on variety will have slits for the hooks to get attached.
Step #3 – Raise the head
Prior to connecting your headboard brackets to the base, you’ll want to lift up the head of the bed frame. This way, you’ll have plenty of space to work.

Step #4 – Attach headboard brackets to base
Since no two manufacturers are identical in how they operate, the specific instructions to connect your headboard brackets to the adjustable bed base will vary. That being said, the main point here is to connect the headboard brackets to the base of the bed itself.
Step #5 – Line up and secure
Finally, you will need to get the mounting holes lined up and secure the headboard. To do this, make sure that the headboard brackets are securely attached to the adjustable bed’s base. Then, use a measuring tape to get the exact distance in between the mounting holes on the headboard struts and from the middle of the mounting slots to the middle of the headboard bracket flanges (also called the “center-to-center distance”). Once this is done, you can thread the bolts through the holes and finalize the attachment of the headboard to the adjustable bed by simply tightening the bolts.
One Final Note
After it is completely secure, safely lower the adjustable frame to lie flat. This will ensure that at least 1 ½” to 2” of clearance that you need from the base to the headboard, which will keep the mattress from scraping up against the headboard while in use.
